Along with other churches and cathedrals across the country, Salisbury Cathedral has been remembering the Queen in its worship, prayer and music. On Sunday 11 September, over 400 people attended the 10.30 service, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926–2022: A Service of Holy Communion, sung by the boys choir and adult singers.

Performing on this memorable occasion were three new choristers, who were formally admitted to the choir at Evensong later that day. Frederick, Keiran and Fred, whose elder brother is a also chorister were ‘bumped’ in time-honoured fashion. Their heads knocked gently on a special stone in the Vestry aisle, where they were welcomed by their peers.

Six senior choristers were also promoted at the same time – Rory, Theo, Kavan, Alexander, Elliot and Jack, Fred’s older brother – each receiving their medals from the Dean of Salisbury, The Very Revd Nicholas Papadopulos.

Numbers visiting the Cathedral since the death of the Queen have been steadily climbing, with over 2000 people signing the Books of Condolence and more expected over the coming days.
