Issued Tuesday 29th June 2010
Salisbury Cathedral is running a digital photography competition and inviting photographers of all ages to capture the essence of this most beautiful building and its surrounding Close.
‘My Salisbury Cathedral’ runs until Tuesday 31 August, and the five categories are: architecture and stained glass, people, abstract, landscape, and young photographer.
There are prizes for the winners of each category including a Spire FM balloon flight, the unique opportunity to photograph the cathedral’s Advent Procession, a morning shadowing one of the specialist news photographers at Salisbury Journal, a half day photo tutorial with professional photographer Ash Mills, and a Sony A380 camera plus 18-55 standard zoom lens donated by London Camera Exchange. The photograph chosen to be the overall winner will be printed onto a large canvas and displayed in the Cathedral Refectory where it will be seen and enjoyed by many thousands of visitors to Salisbury Cathedral.
David Coulthard, Director of Marketing and Communications, said “The quest for the perfect shot fascinates many of our annual 250,000+ visitors as well as those who live and work here. Hundreds of people take photographs here each day and it would be wonderful to see some of these and to be able to share them with a wider audience. Simply send in the photograph you have taken which sums up Salisbury Cathedral for you – and, who knows, you may be one of our competition winners.”
All images should be submitted to: photos@salcath.co.uk and be between 1–5 megabytes (maximum 5 megabytes per email). Please state which category your photograph is intended for.
